UC proposes pay cuts for pension
UC has officially proposed a 3% pay cut for 2011 and 2012. This is part of a larger plan to cut back benefits that the UC Regents have approved for non-union workers in their December 13 meeting.

Lacking funding in the State Budget to cover UC’s portion of contributions for 2007/08, UC has rescheduled the start date for employee contributions, originally planned for 7/1/07.

Although our UC pension is one of the healthiest in the nation and requires no additional contributions until at least 2009, UC has announced they will be asking employees to take an up to 8% pay cut by contributing to our own pensions, beginning as early as 2007.
Pension Bargaining Update #1 (2006): UC Unions Formally Oppose Pay Cuts for Benefits
UC has told UC Staff Unions that they want to bargain now – mid contracts – on employee contributions to the pension.
On October 25, UC Staff Unions will meet with the University to express our strongest opposition. Employees who are paid far below-market – as UC admits we are – cannot fairly be expected to contribute to the UC pension fund.
