Senators Yee and Ashburn, Assemblymembers Portantino and Nestande, have authored Constitutional Amendments to reform the University of California. These two proposals are SCA 21 and ACA 24, and are the first real reform of the UC system since 1879.

Hospitals Post Solid Profits as UC Regents OK Devastating Cuts
On July 16, UC President Mark Yudof was approved by the Regents to force crippling cuts on UC's vital services and programs. This latest shortsighted action, if carried out, will create real problems for the University. A number of sensible alternatives could meet the challenges posed by the revenue reduction UC - like many public institutions - is facing. Unlike many public institutions, UC has considerable resources it can put to work to weather the storm while preserving essential services.

President Harrison Walks Precincts with Lt. Governor John Garamendi
Democratic Lt. Gov. John Garamendi is heading to Washington, D.C., after beating four other candidates in a special election to fill the Congressional seat vacated by Rep. Ellen Tauscher, D-Walnut Creek AFSCME Local 3299 union members and leaders walked precincts for John in Antioch, Fairfield and Walnut Creek.
