I support AFSCME 3299’s struggle for justice at the University of California.

UC must prioritize its patient care and service workers, in order to provide the high level of patient care and student services that Californians deserve.

20,000 essential Patient Care and Service Workers at the University of California are concerned with the quality of patient care and student services. We believe that patient care may be suffering at our Medical Centers because of recruitment and retention problems due to UC's sub-standard wages and benefits. UC Students are paying more for less services, while the workers are struggling to make ends meet. UC is failing California’s poorest communities by not paying market wages.

UC is one of California’s largest employers and is financially healthy but has misplaced priorities. Time and time again, they put executive compensation above all else.

UC should start living up to the industry standards and agree to a fair contract for Patient Care and Service workers. If they did, it would be better for our patients, students and families.
